Woburn, MA, May 28, 2004 - SensAble Technologies, Inc. announced today that version 7.1 of the FreeForm® Modeling Plus™ software is now shipping. The FreeForm Modeling Plus system is the ideal tool for the design of complex, free-form shapes, and delivers a manufacturable model, rapid prototype, and output for downstream CAE/CAD/CAM. The version 7.1 software includes customer-driven product enhancements; support for the mental ray® Standalone Renderer from mental images®; certification of additional graphics boards; and new tools for the design of moldable parts.
In the short time since v7.0 has shipped, customers are adopting the new mold design functionality in the FreeForm Modeling Plus system. In response to customer requests, the version 7.1 software adds expanded display of parting line colors to aid users in designing moldable parts and a new method to create simple mold parting surfaces that minimizes tooling costs for low-cost plastic part production. "At Games Workshop, we design complex tabletop gaming figurines which need to be manufactured economically, but still retain the very high level of detail in the product," said Karl Richardson, Design and Development Engineer at Games Workshop U.K. "FreeForm Modeling Plus v7.1 has the ability to create simple parting lines and surfaces to speed up our manufacturing process thus keeping the tooling costs and time down. SensAble is really listening to our requirements and responding quickly with new enhancements in the FreeForm Modeling Plus software."
The new software supports the export of mental images® .mi file format. This enables designers to boost their productivity by using the optional mental ray version 3.3 Standalone Renderer for 32-bit Windows® systems to create photo-realistic images independently from the FreeForm system. The FreeForm Modeling Plus v7.1 system also offers integrated rendering using the mental ray version 3.3 rendering engine. Concurrent with the new software release, SensAble has completed certification of several new NVIDIA and ATI graphics cards and drivers.
The FreeForm Modeling Plus system is sold with the Phantom® Desktop™ haptic device. The system runs on Windows® XP and Windows 2000. FreeForm Modeling and FreeForm Modeling Plus customers with active maintenance contracts will automatically receive the appropriate update at no extra charge.
