Woburn, MA, August 26, 2004 - SensAble Technologies, Inc.®, is pleased to announce that the "Haptic Dueling Game", created by developer Loren Shih of SensAble™, and the "Haptic BlockTower" game created by Sam Z. Glassenberg and Sam Pearlman, Stanford University, were category winners at the SIGGRAPH "Real-Time 3DX: Demo or Die" event on Monday, August 9, 2004. Both games, which were developed within a few weeks, illustrated how the dimension of touch and the use of force feedback provide a new level of game experience, allowing users to feel the impact as swords clashed and the resistance as blocks were stacked and repositioned to build a tower.

Close to 2,000 people attended the SIGGRAPH "Real-Time 3DX: Demo or Die" event, and voted for their favorites in three categories-Multi-user & Games (MUG), Emerging Technologies, and Business / Educational / Artistic/ Scientific / Training (BEAST). "Haptic Dueling Game" won in the Multi-user & Games category and the "Haptic BlockTower" game won in the Emerging Technologies category.
The developers utilized the SensAble PHANTOM® Omni™ Developer Kit that combines the OpenHaptics™ toolkit and low-cost PHANTOM Omni haptic device. This new toolkit is patterned after the OpenGL® API, making it familiar to graphics programmers, and facilitating the reuse of OpenGL code and integration with OpenGL applications.

The PHANTOM Omni Developer Kit with the OpenHaptics toolkit v1.0 for Windows® is now shipping. Linux® and MacOS X® versions are planned later this year.
