Woburn, MA, May 3, 2006 - SensAble Technologies, Inc. announced today that a new addition to the FreeForm® product line-the FreeForm® Modeling™ system with the PHANTOM® Omni™ haptic device-is now shipping. The system offers a fast and cost effective way for designers and modelers to create original models or modify and stylize scan data, and then output to RP systems for prototyping or use for STL milling of patterns.
The FreeForm Modeling system is a unique touch-enabled solution for fast 3D modeling of complex, highly-detailed, organic shapes. The system allows users to work with virtual clay, providing unparalleled creative freedom and speed, and includes a PHANTOM® device-a true 3D interface with force feedback. Users work in 3D faster than ever before because they use their sense of touch to model virtual clay just like real clay. The system is easy to learn, and users typically become productive within a few days.
The FreeForm Modeling system is ideal for designers and modelers in a broad range of industries with workflows that include 3D scanners and RP systems, including automotive, consumer products, medical and dental, education, and jewelry. Users can import STL polymesh data, rapidly modify the data to develop multiple design variations, and then output to RP or use for STL milling. The system provides a comprehensive set of modeling and detailing tools. Users can create detailed, textures that can be prototyped for evaluation, and then used for manufacturing. Additionally, features such as the display of undercuts with Parting Line Color enables users to avoid making costly production mistakes through evaluation and adjustment of their models early in the design process.
Availability
The FreeForm Modeling system with PHANTOM Omni device is now available. The system includes the recently released FreeForm v9.0, 32-bit software. A 64-bit edition of the v9.0 software for the Freeform Modeling system with PHANTOM Omni device is expected to ship later this year.
The FreeForm Modeling system is also available with the PHANTOM® Desktop™ haptic device. Of the two devices, the PHANTOM Desktop delivers higher fidelity, stronger forces, and lower friction. Upgrades from the FreeForm Modeling system with PHANTOM Omni to the FreeForm Modeling and FreeForm Modeling Plus systems-both with the PHANTOM Desktop device-are available.
